Horsforth Pop-Up Bakery Photography: Yumbo Bakes Mini-Shoot

I absolutely adore working with artisanal businesses. Magical folks who make earth-shatteringly beautiful products with their hands and hearts ! I truly love documenting artisans at work. Capturing enchanting moments when tools, processes and products all come together in symphony. The graft and passion that goes into creating something by hand and seeing the process through from start to finish. How magnificent! All of this is why I do what I do. A lifelong commitment to my own craft, photography.

In my own PhD research on the social and personal benefits of craft, I found that the true magic of craft is that it allows us to get into the "flow". Craft enables us to forget the world around and pursue the pure pleasure of imagining, designing, experimenting and making something from start to finish. Lordy! That was a long winding path to introduce this weeks' blog post about my photoshoot with the awesome Alyce, owner and baker of sensational cakes at Yumbo Bakes.

I can always be tempted by those divine words...Red Velvet and Lotus Biscoff. Yumbo Bakes has both in good measure, and so much more to boot! Oh my! Just take a look....

I got down to Horsforth Brewery early doors to make sure the light was still good. Actually, the craft fair was inside, so I can't use that excuse...I unapologetically wanted first dibs on my faves! Alyce had set out a smashing smorgasbord of baked delights for me to photograph, making my job that morning very easy! I love photographing mini-shoots and events. They provide a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded local business owners, and share our passion for our craft. It's my mission to always keep an accessible price point for my mini-shoots; keeping them inclusive for folks who are just starting out, or turning their side hustle into their main soulwork.

After taking some gorgeous photos of Alyce's beautiful creations, I began to capture the scene inside the craft fair, as some lovely folks started to flock over for all of their vegan brownie needs. Alyce is not just an incredible baker, she an absolute salt of the earth lass! I could have chatted with her for hours about the thought and care that goes into her recipes, or that fact that she's also an amazing Roller-Derby skater! As I rolled our photoshoot to a close, it was that time I'd been waiting for...to buy some of these yummy cakes and brownies to take home. Although, in all honesty, they didn't even make it as far as the carpark! I chose a Lotus Biscoff Blondie as my gorgeous husband and little one tucked into Red Velvet Cupcakes and Cookie Sandwiches.
